Good news: The market value of 166 IT skills surveyed in the first quarter of 2008 kept up their climb begun in 2005, up nearly 2 percent overall for the six months ending April 2008, and more than 6 percent for the year.

The bad news: The average pay for 164 IT certifications posted a seventh straight quarterly decline, down 1.6 percent and 3 percent, respectively. (See bottom chart.)

Again, remember: the listed increases or decreases affect only the skills pay bonus – NOT the base pay.
