3D Secure Online Payment System Not Secure, Researchers Say

University of Cambridge Researchers say that the Verified by Visa and MasterCard SecureCode programs contain numerous security risks and they transfer some of the liability for fraudulent transactions to consumers.

PCWorld: A new paper published by researchers at the University of Cambridge sounds a warning about the Verified by Visa and MasterCard SecureCode programs used by many companies. In the seven-page report, the authors raise numerous concerns about the 3DS programs.

In addition, the authors report that some financial institutions are placing a higher burden of proof on consumers in fraud cases that occur while using the 3DS programs.
