Wall Street Journal: Hoping to extend its lead over competitors in the midrange server market, IBM is unveiling a new line of chips and servers on Monday. The Power7 chip runs four times faster than its predecessor; it also boasts eight processing cores and can handle 32 threads at once.

Intel and several other manufacturers are expected to release competing products shortly, but according to analyst Nathan Brookwood of Insight 64, "Power7 has clearly established itself as the chip to beat. IBM is just leaving the other guys in the dust."
