PC Magazine: Intel's Moblin and Nokia's Maemo will soon merge into a single open-source operating system called "MeeGo." The Linux-based platform will be hosted by the Linux Foundation, and developers will be able to market applications for the OS through both Nokia's Ovi Store or the Intel AppUp Center.
"MeeGo can run on many different devices, [so] people will be able to keep their favorite applications whenever they change their devices," said Kai Oistano, executive vice president of devices for Nokia. "Applications will not be locked into one company's devices or a walled garden. Rather, we see the MeeGo ecosystem as an open frontier – no walls, no fences."
