The Register: Although Microsoft has not confirmed the story, rumors suggest that the company will release the first service pack for Windows 7 before the end of the year. The latest rumors seem to confirm a January story in which a blogger discovered a registry key that indicated that SP1 for the new OS would be released soon.

In general, Microsoft releases service packs about a year after the release of the original operating system, so this release would seem to be right on schedule.
