Chip Giants Establish Linux Group For Phones, TVs

"Linaro" foundation wants to transfer Linux's success in the enterprise to consumer devices.

Computerworld: Six companies, including IBM, Samsung Electronics and Texas Instruments, have announced the formation of a new foundation to promote the use of Linux in consumer devices. The "Linaro" Foundation will receive "tens of millions of dollars per year" from the companies in order to create developer tools that make better use of the capabilities of today's mobile processors.

So far, the foundation has hired 20 engineers and plans to employ more than 100. It is also seeking a CEO.
