Computerworld: Over the weekend, a security researcher published details of a new Windows exploit. The technique involves creating malicious shortcut files with the .lnk extension. Users need only to view the contents of a folder containing the shortcut in order to infect their systems, and all flavors of Windows are vulnerable to the technique.
So far, the possible mitigation techniques suggested by Microsoft and other security researchers are very difficult to implement.
