ZDNet: Adobe is working on a new feature known as "Protected Mode" that will use sandboxing technology to prevent many of the types of attacks that now target users of its Reader software. The new mode will be turned on by default and will restrict the types of actions that can be taken by a PDF file.

Although the feature won't prevent all types of attacks, Adobe security chief Brad Arkin explained, “This will help us protect against most of the attacks we’re seeing today. The attacker will end up in a sandbox and will need a second attack to escape to do [dangerous things].”
