Computerworld: Microsoft has posted a "Fix-It" tool on its Web site that can protect Windows users from the type of shortcut attacks made public last week. Unfortunately, the tool prevents the system from displaying shortcut icons, which Microsoft admitted "impacts usability" of the desktop, taskbar and Start menu.
Microsoft continues to work on a more permanent solution to the problem, but hasn't said when a patch will be released. The next regularly scheduled Patch Tuesday is August 10.
