NY Times: IBM has taken the wraps off a new Z series mainframe that is 40 percent faster and up to 90 percent more energy efficient than its predecessors. In addition, other systems can now be plugged into the mainframe, making it easier to manage the data center.
Analysts expect companies to spend more on mainframes in the second half of the year as the economy recovers. They also say that mainframe-related business accounts for 40 percent of IBM's profits.
