CIO Insight: A new survey reveals that the areas where large enterprises increased their budget the most from 2009 to 2010 were virtualization software, servers, backup hardware, SANs and desktops/notebooks. For medium-sized companies, the top of the list included servers, virtualization software, backup hardware, ERP apps and SANS.
And in 2009, large enterprises experienced the biggest cost overruns in virtualization software, application platforms, firewalls/VPNs, collaboration apps and ERP apps. For mid-size businesses, the list differs significantly, with data loss prevention, firewalls/VPNs, access control, backup hardware and authentication management at the top.
